Dancing Toward Bethlehem

If there is only enough time in the final
minutes of the 20th century for one last dance
I would like to be dancing it slowly with you,

say, in the ballroom of a seaside hotel.
My palm would press into the small of your back
as the past hundred years collapsed into a pile
of mirrors or buttons or frivolous shoes,

just as the floor of the 19th century gave way
and disappeared in a red cloud of brick dust.
There will be no time to order another drink
or worry about what was never said,

not with the orchestra sliding into the sea
and all our attention devoted to humming
whatever it was they were playing.

Beauty

"I sat up in the boat. Gigantic forest trees were about me, through which, like a silver snake, twisted and twined the great river. The little waves, when I moved in the boat, heaved and fell with a plash as of molten silver, breaking the image of the moon into a thousand morsels, fusing again into one, as the ripples of laughter die into the still face of joy. The sleeping woods, in undefined massiveness; the water that flowed in its sleep; and, above all, the enchantress moon, which had cast them all, with her pale eye, into the charmed slumber, sank into my soul, and I felt as if I had died in a dream, and should never more awake."

Ozymandias

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed,
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Song

This song is one that we danced to for our recital last April. It was my favorite dance that we did. Thank you Cristina for putting it on for me!!!!!!!!!

Proverbs 14:12

"There is a why which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death."

Never mind about the music...I can't figure it out.

A Bit of Things

The dance went amazingly well at the Windy see Cristina's post to hear more. If all works, the music you hear now is our dance music. Very cool.

We drove in the rain yesterday, parallel parked, and drove through a lot of intersections.

"The Inspecter opened his notebook.
'Your name is Halcoc, is't no?' he began.
The butler corrected him.
'H'alcock,' he said, reprovingly.
'H, a, double-l?' suggested the Inspecter.
'There is no h'aitch in the name, young man. H'ay is the first letter, and there is h'only one h'ell.'
'I beg your pardon,' said the Inspecter.
'Granted,' said Mr. Alcock."

Eye Strings

What about having your “eye strings break in death”? Interesting. We sang that in Rock of Ages; the verse goes like this “Whilst I draw this fleeting breath; When my Eye strings break in Death, When I soar through tracts unknown, See Thee on thy Judgment Throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee.”

A Concert and More

Last night was spectacular. We sang a collection of Psalms composed by Mr. Reagan and also his version of Rock of Ages. After an eight minute intermission, we sang Gabriel Faure’s Cantique de Jean Racine (in French) and the Requiem (in Latin). The song I have playing is my favorite solo from the Requiem. Alison Bradley sang the solo (in the performance not in the recording) and she is amazing. I saw Ruth at the concert and she is happy to be here.
I have a cold but will survive. I think…for today is the day of days…today my Irish Dance class perform in front of tons of people…hopefully we won’t die ;) Just kidding, everything will be beautiful J
All of our boarders are here with their families and everyone can’t wait to see us Irish Dance at the Windy (that’s a ball). Scary!!!! We will survive!!!

Lewis

"Inner silence is for our race a difficult achievment. There is a chattering part of the mind which continues, until it is corrected, to chatter on even in the holiest places."

A Party

For my birthday…which happened a month ago…I had a party. The guests were instructed to dress as a character from a book and this is what we came up with. Rosie was Marie from Calico Captive; Traci was Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz; Cristina was Miriam from Pearl Maiden: Katie and Grace were Jill and Eustace; and I was Buran from Seven Daughters and Seven Sons. I hope they all had a great time, I know I did. We played games, ate wonderful food prepared by my mother, watched movies, spent the night, and had a blast. Thanks you all for coming!! Here are some pictures…
