Glorious Quotes

"The study of history is the best medicine for a sick mind" - The Early History of Rome by Livy

"Like a church bell, a coffin, and a vat of melted chocolate,a supply closet is rarely a comfortable place to hide." - The Hostile Hospital by Lemony Snicket

"It is always cruel to laugh at people, of course, although sometimes if they are wearing am ugly hat it is hard to control yourself." - The Austere Academy by Lemony Snicket

"Fascism and Communism are kissing cousins." - Dr. George Grant

Rather Unfinished Character Description

Uncomfortably hot grains of sand shifted between her toes as she ran toward the water. Large umbrellas and sun burnt people lay spread out in both directions, everyone as close to the water as they could get without being wet. A large woman, sitting in a white beach chair, licked her fingers after tossing a Lay’s potato chip bag to the ground. Heaving herself out of the chair, the woman made her way to the water, unaware of the unpleasant picture her lumpy arms and legs presented.

Unknown Verses

Browsing Dr. Grant's blog I came across the "Star Spangled Banner" with all its verses and thought you all might find it interesting.

O! say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming:
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming,
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:

O! say, does the star-spangled banner still wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mist of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream.

‘Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is the band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country would leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave!

And the star-spangled banner in triumph cloth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O! thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the foe's desolation;
Bless'd with victory and peace, may our heaven rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just,
And this be our motto, “In God is our trust!”

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

From Days Gone By

There has been as death and a resurrection. Our dearest, despised internet died. Note: that is why I have been absent for, O, so long. It was resurrected a few days ago by the repair man. Aren’t we pleased.

My grandparents are here!!!! Time for a lot of spoiling and fun!!!!

School is great! Mrs. P is a wonderful teacher and it is so fun doing school with my friend Cristina. We are having a great time plowing through Total Truth, logically thinking about Logic, grammatically correcting our Grammar, plotting our Geometry, historically categorizing History, like scientists studying our Chemistry, poetically writing, largely reading Great Books, literarily critiquing our Literature, tunefully singing in Choir, devouring our Lunch, and most linguistically talking Latin.

I am all alone. (not really) Mama and Papa are in Seattle with Emma, she has appointments with all her doctors. The appointment with Dr. Manning (her ENT) will be a hearing test to see how well she can hear out of her left ear.
